Yes. I couldn't stand it. I'm not saying it's terrible for what it is, just that I don't like it and would never play that type of game again.
As to whether it's classic or works best, that depends on who's playing it. It doesn't work best for me, and CT3 is where I began playing this series. It's good to know they will never go back to point and click.

There's still a chance they might come to their senses and go back to it. Point-and-click will always work best for games like this. One of the biggest faults of Clock Tower 3 and Haunting Ground was that you had to do everything with a murderous psychopath chasing after you.

That isn't a fault, you just aren't into games like that. I don't say point and click is a fault, I just don't like it.
Being chased all the time is great. I just wish they made all the stalkers much harder, because after you get better they aren't really a problem. On HG, after some events or if you trigger some yourself, the stalkers start running at twice your speed. I think on hard mode they should have had them like this all the time. Either way they're still very easy to avoid.

But it is a fault. I am very much into games of that style, but to have a person literally behind you for the whole level makes it near impossible to complete the game. You can't stop to pick anything up or examine anything half the time, and you have to run miles away from where you want to go in an attempt to throw off your stalker, who will end up on your tail seconds after you finally do.

I think we already talked about this, and I have no interest going through it again. I've found ways to evade or defeat stalkers without too much trouble, if at all. I even think they should be much harder too avoid. As they are now it gets a bit boring after multiple playthroughs.

Petitions really never work. I think it might be better to go to the Capcom forum and post about the game there.

I found out (on my second playthough) that walking in the game is not recommended. Only walk, when you are walking over loud surfaces like glass. Other wise, run. You'll get things done faster before the stalker returns. As for difficulty. I found the extra game mode to be harder, where the enemies have different and more powerful weapons. One or two smacks from them and you are in panic mode. I still haven't completed that mode.
