Besides already hearing various reviews of Clock Tower: First Fear (SNES) from users on this board, I am actually curious as to what people thought of First Fear, in a much wider scope that is, the first time you played the game and how you feel about it now.
I'll start off as an example...
When I first and accidentally came across Clock Tower: First Fear, I had mixed feelings; mainly because it was an SNES game and the reputation for the SNES with horror games was fairly poor. But this was before I played the game... the first time I played it... I must admit I was scared. I thought it was a little slow paced as I explored the mansion, checking various things along the way until I encountered the mirror in the bedroom. The death scene made me fall off my chair. Being as I found the atmosphere of this game so potent, I knew I had to play it again....and then came the first encounter with Scissorman...and the first deaths of other characters. The game simply drew me in to such depths that I was afraid to walk into my own bathroom that night when I finished playing around 1AM and everyone was asleep.
With the lack of good horror films in recent times, this is just what I needed, an instant horror classic. The atmosphere it what sells this game, the mansion environment particularly....and the fact that Scissorman could be absoutely...ANYWHERE The paranoia begins to set in after a while...
This game, being my second experience in the Clock Tower franchise (Clock Tower 3 being the first) was truly and completely enjoyable and still is very much so these days...with the draught of good horror continuing. I only wish though that I would have time these days to play it every so often.
