Connection between this/previous game?*SPOILERS*

Reading Wiki, I saw this under Bates character section:
Bates is Alyssa Hale's male alter ego. The Maxwells, fearing that their twins were the "Cursed Children" born yet again (Bobby and Dan from the previous games), buried them alive in the family grave just after they were born, as was done in past generations.
While this is likely just something someone assumed, it's got something to it. Does anyone think this could be the case? Is there some connection between the Maxwell and Barrows families, just as a connection between them and nother family is found out in CT3?
