Am I the only one who finds it strange that May was left living all alone? Even with a nanny during the day, she was by herself at night. And during wartime, too! Why not get her a full-time nanny? Or send her to live with relatives?

She did say that she'd be all right by herself; May was a mature girl, just shows how much he trusted her.

Still, it is not like he was going out to the store-he was going off to war and would be gone for months! Mature or not, it does not sound like a good idea to leave your 12-year-old daughter home by herself, regardless of how mature she is. As proven by what ended up happening to her.

It's possible that they didn't have any realitives (living near by, or alive) that he could send her off to stay with. As far as a full time nanny - I doubt he'd be able to afford it.

Yet he could afford a part-time nanny and piano lessons? And she seems like a pleasant enough girl, so I think he could have found someone who was willing to care for her.

A middle class tailor in...1942 was it? so it was the 2nd world war... 1942? isn't that a little late to recruit new men into the army?
A part time nanny is good enough, they live in a shop, it closes and daddy probably told her a million times to lock the door after hours; and who the hell would predict a big creepy man to carry a hammer? That doesn't happen everyday y'know! and if the father had thoughts like that, people would think him paranoid!

Parents are supposed to worry when it comes to their kids. It's common knowledge not to leave them alone.

We have to keep in mind that this was the 1940’s, unlike today there weren’t stories in the paper every day about rape and murder, people where a bit more – dare I say, naive and trusting?

Still, it is not like he was going out to the store-he was going off to war and knew he could likely be gone for months if he even returned at all.

oh well - it's a video game! maybe the people working on it got lazy and didn't want to add a nanny! if there was a live in nanny, they'd have to create a whole other cut scene with her getting her head crushed in also.

Curse you Capcom!!!
Well, they are middle class right? so maybe hireing a nanny was quite costly then?

But he already had a part-time one hired, and piano lessons were probably not all that cheap.
