Haven't heard of that one before. I'll have to try to find that movie. I guess that anything that involves killing someone with scissors is possibly an inspiration for clock tower. Good find.

I saw The Burning a long time ago and I liked it. The funny thing is, the reason I rented the movie is that the cover of the movie caught my eye with the shadow of a person holding up a pair of hedgeclippers. It reminded me of Clock Tower so I decided to get it. Im waiting for it to come out on DVD (not some bootleg on eBay).
Anyway, Id have to say that Phenomena was the biggest inspiration to the game.

Ah yes, I'm pretty sure The Burning was one of the main inspiration for the first two games. Cropsy (the antagonist in The Burning) definately looks alot like the Scissorman on the PS1 cover. (I haven't seen the movie yet either, but I am working on getting a copy. I have however seen the Raft Scene) www.ultimate-horror.com/slashers/burning46.jpg <- Cropsy Phenomena was also definately a main inspiration for the games, as well as other Argento films. Dario Argento had a very heavy inspiration on the CT games, as you will notice if you happen to be a big fan of him (like me) and watch alot of his films. I'll list some of the references at the end of this post. I first played this before I really got into horror, and it really opened me up to Italian horror films, mainly Argento's works. Here's some of the references I promised you: CT:FF Doll room - The small dolls that are hung around their necks on the cieling is a reference to Dario Argento's Deep Red. CT:FF Mannequin room - This room seems to be somewhat of a reference to Mario Bava's Hatchet for the Honeymoon.
CT:FF Skylight death - This is practically straight out of Dario Argento's Suspiria (After watching the movie, this is the absolute first reference I noticed) Bobby Barrows - A very straightforward to Dario Argento's Phenomena, exactly the same design as the boy who attacks Jennifer Corvino near the very end of the movie. Mrs. Mary - Another straightforward reference to Phenomena, same personality and similar look to the boy's mother in the movie. Scissors: Probably a reference to The Burning. Jennifer: Similar character and same look and personality as Jennifer Corvino in Phenomena. Barrows Mansion: Very simliar interior design to the schoolhouse in Phenomena. CT:FF The hidden room with the Father's corpse. - This is another one from Deep Red, in which a hidden room is discovered with all the objects from the murder still there, including the corpse. I'll list some more a bit later, so check again. I also recommend looking these movies up, for those who havent seen them.

I would love to see the movie, Phenomena, isn't it called creepers in the US though?

Yeah, I thought I read about it being called Creepers in the US and being edited out. Doesn't surprise me though. I would still like to see the movie.

About a few years ago I heard about Phenomena and couldnt find a copy of it anywhere, but they had Creepers so I had to settle with that. I thought it was decent. But once I bought and watched Phenomena, it was A LOT better. I hate it when the US cuts things out.

I thought the scissor man was inspired by an old poem... wha was it called, 'little suck a thumb' was it? where this tall tailor cuts off naughty kids who sucks their thumbs...

There is a link to that somewhere, but it was only something that someone THOUGHT might have been an inspiration. I don't think it really was.

Dario Argento had a very heavy inspiration on the CT games, as you will notice if you happen to be a big fan of him (like me) and watch alot of his films. I'll list some of the references at the end of this post. . . . Here's some of the references I promised you. . . . Dario Argento's Deep Red . . . Mario Bava's Hatchet for the Honeymoon
. . . Dario Argento's Suspiria. . . . Michael B.: I don't know if you ever log on any more, but thanks for taking the trouble to write a list of specific refs. I've seen all the movies in question, love Bava/Argento and will watch for the scenes you've listed. (By the way: I'm trying to break people's precedent of mentioning Argento once and quietly disappearing!) Mr. Bates: I see you're the one who resurrected this thread. Are you nursing an interest in Mr. Argento's flicks? Obscure Nightmares: The best two DVD versions of Phenomena are by Medusa (an Italian "Integral" version, meaning it includes every extant scene that was ever edited out, but, sadly, doesn't include the English track) and Anchor Bay (sadly, AB's version isn't integral and looks a tad dark on modern DVD players). The Japan "Shock" version is integral as well. The German integral version by Dragon is also good (though the sound options are less than stellar). I'd mention specific sources for buying all these, but I'm at work currently and can't spending extra time checking Broken Clock's Rules section until later. For extensive and useful comparisons, you might want to visit the Mobius Home Video Forums (sub-forum: Euro-Cult), if you haven't already. I recommend searching for posts by Tim Lucas, editor of Video Watchdog, audio track commentator on numerous DVD releases and author of Mario Bava: All the Colors of the Dark.
